H.O.P.E. reaches out to the next generation by visiting students in the classroom and other venues, and educating them in basic pet care and responsibility. Students learn about the human-animal bond, and always love meeting Lucky, our teaching dog.
|
|
If you would like a H.O.P.E. volunteer to speak at your place of worship, classroom, library, or any other venue, please contact us. We’d love to hear from you!

We assist pet owners with spaying/neutering their pets, and assist good Samaritans with veterinarian bills incurred when a stray pet is found.

We bring H.O.P.E. pets to nursing homes for visits. These visits foster a sense of community. Residents often talk about it for days afterwards, and can’t wait until our next visit!

We provide low-cost micro-chipping for cats and dogs. Micro-chipping will assist owners in finding their pets should they become separated from their families. See our Calendar for dates, times and locations.

We assess (temperament test) dogs at the Saratoga County Animal Shelter that we are unable to accept into our program due to lack of resources. This program assists Shelter staff in providing more information to potential adopters about their dogs. We do not have the resources to assess every dog at the Shelter. This certainly does not mean that a dog we do not assess would not be the perfect family member for you! During your next visit to the Shelter, ask staff about the dogs we have assessed.

We provide free advertising on our Website for pet owners who must find new homes for their pets, and for individuals who have found stray animals they are unable to keep.

Our Seniors for Seniors program allows us to adopt senior cats and dogs (age 7 and up) to qualified senior citizens free of charge.

We promote Teaching Kids to Care. Helping stray, abused, and abandoned animals in our community is our number-one goal. But rescuing, sheltering, and adopting animals isn’t enough. We also need to teach our youngest citizens the basics of responsible pet care and the value of treating people and animals with compassion, kindness and respect. For each $30 tax-deductible contribution you make to our Adopt-a-Classroom program, The Humane Society of the United States will provide an entire elementary-school class with KIND News, an award-winning classroom newspaper that teaches children to be kind to people, animals, and the earth. A subscription to KIND News includes nine monthly issues, September through May. Each issue comes with 28 copies of the newspaper and a teacher’s guide. Teachers also receive KIND Teacher, a resource book of reproducible worksheets that reinforce lessons in kindness and responsibility. Please help us teach our children to care by adopting classrooms today!

Very soon after we accepted Sasha into our program, she was diagnosed with cancer and given 6 months to live. Five years later, in 2008, her adoptive mom brought Sasha to visit H.O.P.E. volunteers at our Annual Walk for the Animals.

Nico used to be a run-away. He still likes to run, but stays close to his new home because it’s the best place he knows!
