Lucy Gourlay – HOPE cared for, summer 2019.
When I adopted Lucy, I mostly did it for my father, who had owned Lucy since she was a kitten. Dad worried that because Lucy was 12 years of age, no one would want to adopt her or she wouldn’t adjust well to a new home. Lucy bravely drove home with me to Boxborough, Massachusetts (3-1/2-hour drive from your former site), quickly became the little princess of my apartment, and again moved with me to a new apartment in Concord, MA in August 2020. The photos below (bottom to top) show her lounging near a stack of clean laundry (her favorite!), looking out the porch door in Boxborough, claiming HER Pottery Barn chair and pouncing on the packing material after the move to Concord, looking out her new porch door, and turning my body pillow into an extra cat bed.
The picture at the top is the last one I have of her, taken 4 days before she died. I had to go to my work office that day, so I took her with me, and a veterinarian referred me to a pet crematory in the area. I keep her ashes and hair clippings in her cat cave (attached pic) near my desk at home, where she loved to watch the computer and nap in the cat cave nearby.
Lucy was my best buddy during the COVID-19 lockdown, and I miss her gentle presence every day. Thank you for your continued work to help animals find new homes. I didn’t expect Lucy to add so much to my life, and I’m glad you give many people that opportunity.
