Our dear friend Martha, adopter of former HOPE dog, Tobey, shared this lovely memorial with us. We share in the sorrow of Martha’s loss but also have great joy in our hearts, knowing what a loving home Tobey had with her and her family.
“I am sad to let the H.O.P.E community know that Tobey Christopher Gallo, son of Layla and brother of Howie as well as 9 other siblings (born February 17th, 2006) crossed the rainbow bridge this past Monday just 2 months shy of his 13th birthday. He was the best dog anyone could ask for. Very maternal/paternal in nature, kind and caring for all creatures great and small, from horses to infants but oddly feared kittens LOL….Tobey had a heart for all things even crickets that he used to bring indoors with his mouth and try to keep them in his bed
, we’d take the crickets back outside but he’d tried over and over to sneak them him with head hung low but a green leg sticking out of his mouth…LOL. He was never did a naughty thing in his entire life on this earth and even in his last few days, tired and sick…he still stood up to check on his human father every time he sneezed with a look of concern. In the days before he left us….he took over one of Charlie’s cat beds and rubbed himself all over it almost daily, as if to leave a love letter for his friend before he left and so Charlie would have something to keep and remember him by for all time (no I’m not washing the bed). As large as he was, he was extremely nimble we found out after his second female canine companion, Lilly Lovetree crossed the rainbow bridge he started to do what Lilly did, which is jump up on the back of the club chair or love seat from a standing still position to guard his human father. It was as if he was doing this at Lilly’s request to let us know she was in heaven, but still with us through Tobey. Not an easy feat for a middle aged dog who’s topped out close to 100lbs, so he surprised us all. Tobey is greatly missed but forever in our hearts Thank you Wendy, Jill and H.O.P.E for letting us experience such love like no other”
